We can influence the processes flowing in our brain, the neuropsychologist Daniel Siegel proved the neuropsychologist. How this discovery will change our life?

Psychologies: vision, touch, smell, taste, hearing – Aristotle also called them. Now researchers add intuition to this five. So how many feelings do we have?

Daniel Siegel: Our five feelings are aimed at the outside world. The sixth I call interaculation – our ability to perceive our inner bodily sensations. But there is a seventh feeling – the ability to perceive and realize their thoughts and feelings, as well as the feelings and thoughts of other people, a variety in a special way focused and directed attention. I call it “Mayansight” – smart vision.

Mindsight combines three components. Firstly, this is an insight itself, the very insight that allows us to literally see and realize the internal processes that occur in our minds. Secondly, it is empathy, the ability to feel and perceive what is happening to another person. And thirdly, integration, which simultaneously honors differences and establishes connections. So Mindsight is one of the key concepts in interpersonal neurobiology, which I have been doing for many years.

Smart vision can be developed or it is given to us initially?

Of course, it can be developed, as hearing develops, taste or tactile perception.

Childhood and adolescence are the critical moment when our neural ties are formed. One of the exercises that I propose there for starters is such. Here you see around people, their bodies, how they move, how they are dressed, and say to yourself: “This is my physical perception”. And then try to imagine what this person is now thinking. Or how he thinks. And what he may feel now.

Starting to realize what is happening to you, you will notice many things that have not paid attention to before

Over time, you will even begin to feel through time! You will easily feel what happened to you or with other people in the distant past or will only happen in the future. Now compare what has changed in your attitude to a person after this exercise. You just looked at him, and it was one impression. But you used Minsight – and this is a completely different feeling of a person. How they differ? Usually people immediately feel the difference. But sometimes you need training.

But Mindsight is also a self -awareness?

Yes, and here is the second exercise. Choose about five to ten minutes, you can right now. Feel your body first. How do you feel your arms and legs, torso? Muscles? Vessels? How you feel your internal organs – heart, kidneys, lungs, liver? What is your common sensation from the body – you are easy or difficult for you, you are in contact with it or do not feel it? Then pay attention to what images arise before your inner gaze. They are bright or dull? What are they in the mood? What exactly do you see, hear?

Now direct attention to feelings and emotions. What do you feel right now? Excitement, calm, fear, fatigue, anxiety, anticipation? These are strong or weak emotions? You have a lot of energy or you are devastated? You are more open or closed? And now – what do you think about at this moment. We constantly think about something, but, as a rule, we do not pay attention to it.
